The presiding goddess
The Meenkulathi Temple stands in Pallassana, a quiet village in the Palakkad district of Kerala — the oldest shrine in the region.
Tradition holds that centuries ago, three families of the Veerasaiva Vellalar Mannadiar community worshipped the goddess Madurai Meenakshi as their family deity. The temple that grew around this devotion is built in classic Kerala style — constructed so that the shadow of the outer wall never falls upon the ground.
Two entrances — north and west — open into the compound, with the sacred temple tank resting beside the western gate. Through centuries, the annual rhythm of festivals has kept these stones alive: Ulsavam, Navarathri, Kannyarkali, Chanthattam, and the seven-day temple festival with Ottamthullal, Kathakali, Melam, Thayambaka and Panchavadyam.
